October has brought in an alarming surge of new COVID-19 cases in the United States and experts expect that this increase will continue. The New York Times reported that the daily average of new COVID-19 cases this past week has surpassed 62,000, which shows a 32 percent increase from the average 2 weeks ago. This increase also rings true in Georgia. Georgia is among the states where COVID-19 rates are "higher and staying high." The increase in cases continue to disproportionately impact Black and marginalized communities.
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Bank of America, in partnership with the United Way, Global Health Crisis Coordination Center, Metro Atlanta Chamber, and VGI, created the Bank of America Million Mask Challenge. This initiative identifies local organizations in need of face masks and matches them with corporates who can help. BCDI-Atlanta was one of the organizations identified to receive masks. GPC NAPA and the Atlanta Falcons have kindly agreed to donate 44,000 masks to BCDI-Atlanta.
