In February 2024, BCDI-Atlanta proudly hosted two remarkable events to honor outstanding leaders and advance the quality of early care and education for Black children and families.
The 2024 Community Leadership Awards recognized individuals and organizations making significant strides in early care and education, literacy, family engagement, and public policy. Among the esteemed awardees were:
Dr. Tanya Thomas (Elaine Banks Collins Early Care & Education Award)
Crystal Simpkins (Read to Succeed Literacy Award)
Dr. James “Jim” Young (Dr. Asa G. Hilliard, III Legacy Award)
Feliciano Lewis (Powerful Families Family Engagement Award)
Milton Little (Partner of the Year)
Mayor Andre Dickens (Advocate of the Year).
We also recognized board members for their dedicated service. A captivating performance by Georgia Grammy-nominated artist Anthony David further enriched the awards ceremony.
Following the awards, BCDI-Atlanta hosted the 5th Annual Culturally Responsive Early Care and Education Summit, a collaborative endeavor centered around the theme,' Thoughts Become Things: Manifesting a Bright Future for Black Children and Families.' Attendees were active participants in 12 sessions, with 30 presenters and 2 panels addressing critical topics such as literacy, family engagement, assets and resources, and community and cultural identity. The summit provided a dynamic platform for learning, networking, and collaboration among leaders in the early childhood education field.
With over 200 attendees, the 2024 5th Annual Culturally Responsive Early Care and Education Leadership Summit & Awards was a resounding success. In fact, 98% of the participants were so impressed with the immersive experience that they were excited to recommend the summit to others. This overwhelming response is a testament to the quality and impact of these events.
Both events underscored BCDI-Atlanta's ongoing commitment to advancing the well-being and educational outcomes of Black children and families. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to all participants, awardees, and supporters who, through their unwavering support, contributed to the success of these impactful gatherings. Your efforts and dedication are truly invaluable to us.
