As childcare programs and summer camps open or re-open, BCDI-Atlanta would like to offer resources to guide your approach for maintaining health and safety.
The American Camp Association (ACA) and the YMCA of the USA (Y-USA) are collaborating to offer educational resources for both day and overnight camps directors and staff. These resources will offer guidance and a toolkit for implementing specific CDC recommendations as they apply to risk reduction at camps. Please read the Camp Operations Guide Summer 2020 for more information. Specific to Atlanta, Mayor Keisha Lance Bottom's Advisory Council for the Reopening of Atlanta submitted a final report with recommendations for gradually reopening the city. The report outline three core focuses for reopening. It is recommended that
The City establishes and tracks clear metrics to inform residents and businesses when the city will reopen, and the measures that can take to remain safe when the city reopens. These metrics will also be used to keep officials and public health agencies informed about any resurgences of COVID-19, so that they may be able to alert the public.
The City supplements the State’s reopening criteria with additional, voluntary guidelines. It is recommended that the city opens in 5 sequential stages; advancement to the next stage will only occur if certain metrics are achieved.
The City continues to work with public and private partners to address considerations for reopening.
Georgia Statewide Afterschool Network offers a Summer Activity Guide, which consists of fun and engaging activities for children for this summer as we deal with the impact of COVID-19. The guide offers 150 activities and challenges, and tools for professional development and fostering family engagement.
